Events

Our First Event is FINALLY about to go LIVE!
2022 Online Auction.
Our inaugural event starts October 29, 2022 and runs through November 26th. Think about those folks on your gift giving lists who would love to know they are supporting horses and the planet. You can come bid on great services, gift certificates, one-of-a-kind artwork, and horse supplies and gifts.

Auction site: https://www.biddingowl.com/RETURNTOHORSEMEDICINE

We hope to raise the money to begin the application process for our own 501(c)3 and maybe purchase some of the things on our wishlist, especially those things that will make our day to day work with horses a little easier.

Have questions? Want to donate an item or two (it’s never too late!)? Email Leah at lkyaio@return2horsemedicine.org

Developing Plans
On the ground.

We have learned these last few months that the property we are on is not going to be able to provide and sustain our current herd and certainly will not allow us to engage those needing our services. With flooding pastures, issues of overgrazing and toxic plants, and no room to grow we have made the tough decision to relocate. Our goal is to find our new Land this Winter and move in Spring 2023.

We know this is an enormous undertaking with a bold timeline. It is also what is needed and so we trust it will unfold in the perfect way.

As we continue to move forward, seeking a property of 20-100 acres of mixed woods and open Land with elevation and creeks/springs, we ask for your thoughts, ideas, gifts, and words of encouragement.

If you know of any possibilities of such Land in the Virginia mountainous regions, please reach out. We’d love to share our parameters and plans.

Thanks to donations we have been able to:

We have flysheets for each of our sanctuary horses! Hooray. We also use our own, homemade fly repellent from essential oils. Watch for our Natural Horse Care Recipe Book coming in the Winter of 2022, just in time for holiday giving! It will have this recipe and so many more of those we use right here on Return to Horse Medicine’s Herd!

We have a NEW run-in for the upcoming Winter. The spring and summer of 2022 brought enough winds that our run-in was blown around and several of the primary supports snapped (pictures below). Yeah, it used to be round and upright. LOL

An SOS was sent out by one of our volunteers and before we knew it, the donations for the new one rolled in. As it is quickly getting colder, I and the horses can’t tell you how grateful we are! (Pictures of the new one coming soon!)

Online

Winter of 2022/23 we will be introducing our online store. You will be able to purchase swag with our logo as well as organization-specific products like our Natural Horse Care Recipe Book and cool cards, calendars, coloring books, and more of our horses, volunteers and Land. Watch for the email announcement.

Other Ways to Support Horses
Wild horses continue to be at risk. Domestic horses continue to be misunderstood, mismanaged, over trained, and under valued.

While Return to Horse Medicine does it’s job of rescuing orphans, wilds/unhandleds, and those with problematic behaviors, as well as providing education and improving the quality of care, management, performance, and relationship between humans and horses, we can’t do it all. Below are some organizations doing amazing work that supports our broader mission.

Horse Welfare Organization of Canada – https://www.horsewelfare.ca/

The Cloud Foundation – https://www.thecloudfoundation.org/

Wild Horse Education – https://wildhorseeducation.org/

Don’t forget! Your voice with the Bureau of Land Management directed by your government representatives is a powerful way to advocate. Need to figure out who your representatives are to advocate for wild and domestic animals? Go here: https://www.house.gov/representatives/find-your-representative
