Volunteer Opportunities

If you are interested in cleaning pasture, putting up fence, and doing small construction projects let us know. All of the work is done in the same pasture our sanctuary horses call home so you are pretty well guaranteed some horse contact! Email Leah at lkyaio@return2horsemedicine.org to set up a time to come out and talk about the opportunity, sign some paperwork, and set up a schedule.

Want to Sponsor a horse, breakfast, or play time?
There are lots of ways to create a one time, monthly, or yearly sponsorship. Be sure to note your desire on you contribution so we know where to put it! Here are some ideas of what it might look like (and feel free to recommend more!):

General monthly sponsorship of a horse (includes hay and feed with general supplements): $100
Special supplements & meds for Moe, monthly(read about his special needs): $75
Special supplements & meds for Winston, monthly (read his story): $130
Sponsor some play time. We purchase various pasture toys to keep the horses from becoming bored and help them stay psychologically stimulated. The toys, of course, wear out from their vigorous play. This is a one time donation and can range from $50 – 500.
Sponsor bathing! We make a lot of our own shampoos and rinses to support the season and condition of the horse. This is a one time sponsorship of $240 or monthly at $20.
Breakfast for a horse (one time donation) includes a special treat of carrots, apples, or celery: $5
Wish List
These are specific items our horses and farm need to manage and improve our day to day work. If you’re interested in some of our feeding and training routines, head over to Our Horses page where you will find videos and picture of the fun and work that goes into every day here at Return to Horse Medicine.

If you’re interested in donating any of the items, many have links to websites showing what we have in mind. You can order directly from those sites and have it mailed to us, find another site of location you wish to purchase from and have it mailed to us (or come visit us with it!), or financially donate the amount with a note of what specifically the donation needs to go to.

Haybags, large webbed.
Pasture hay hut and net kit.
Small tractor. (No link) Maybe you or someone you know has an old one sitting around? It would be best as the type that can be interchanged with equipment for the job (like augers, bushhogs, and graders). We have some volunteers who can do some pretty amazing things with fixer-uppers. Never know what we might be able to make work!
Organic Flax Seed. This is one of the staples we feed in our rotation to keep all our horses healthy. We use it every day so it gets challenging to keep on hand.
Organic White Willow Bark. This is a great herb that helps to manage pain and inflammation. It is especially important for metabolic horses.
Winter water trough heaters. As winter sets in keeping the horses’ drinking water from freezing is always a task. It seems most of the heaters we’ve used only last a season or two. We need at least 2 per season and are going into Winter 2022 with only 1.
Large barn fan. We found this was the only way to combat horse flies in the summer! It also helps to move air and the horses spend time standing in front of it on those hot, muggy summer days.
Wheelbarrows. From hauling project materials around the farm to moving manure, wheelbarrows are a core piece of equipment that keeps our processes moving. We prefer those that have two wheels instead of one.
Big Pasture Ball and Cover. These are toys that are crucial to the curiousity of the littlest ones and in bringing out the inner foal in the elders!
Himalayan Salt licks. We hang these in the trees as well as on run-ins and corrals.
Adoption
This process will be posted soon. Stay tuned!

Send up the LOVE
It is always great when we hear from folks who value what we do. Some of the things we have gotten in the past that mean the world to us include cards in the mail, pictures from classrooms of students, white papers and information from research projects, and even your every day thoughts and prayers.

These are all great ways to support the work we do here at Return to Horse Medicine. This work only makes change when YOU support US.

Thank you!
